A Los Angeles Times article reported yesterday the results on an investigation of where money donated in California charity drives really go. On average, just 46 cents of every dollar donated actually went to the charity, with fundraisers keeping the other 54 cents. Campaigns with strong emotional appeals, like animal rights, tended to fair the worst. Both HSUS and PETA were reported in the high revenue, low return category with HSUS having an embarrassing net return of just 11.3 percent. With 28.3 percent net return, PETA donors have something to be angry about as well.
