Develop an elevator pitch for Ag.

One of the best things you can do for yourself and your industry is to develop a 60 second “elevator pitch” about who you are and why Agriculture is important. The short intro can come in handy when meeting new people whether it be at the grocery store, on the plane or, of course, in and elevator. Your blurb should include who you are, what you do and what agriculture means to you. It could be as simple as this.

“Hi, I’m Bob Smith. I’m a rancher from Burlington, Colorado. I grew up on a farm and love being outside. I feel lucky I can make a living working with the land and tending to my cattle.” Practice the speech so you’re comfortable with it. Then use it often. The person you’re talking to may not be connected to agriculture, but you’ve just provided them a human element to the industry.
